What’s on in August 2026

Everything you need to know for August…

We have a change of pace during August so there will be limited classes and reduced PT sessions until the new term begins in September.

I’ve added some summer sessions for Functional Pilates on Monday nights in Sissinghurst, a perfect chance to keep up your usual practice or to try out something new to you. Sessions will focus on core & back strengthening exercises with some stretching & mobility moves to take us through the summer holiday.

Summer sessions can be booked here

For those who like to plan ahead, term-dates for the new term are –

Personal training sessions resume from 17th August and I look forward to seeing you then. If you are interested in booking some PT sessions, please let me know and I will be in touch once I am back at work after a little adventure…

Walking the Pennine Way!

I cannot wait to see this view again! Not long now…

I’m (mostly) not worried about actually walking the Pennine Way and the logistics are pretty much all sorted now, but I have read today that there are lots of ticks, horse flies and adders along the route so that will add extra ‘fun’ to my hike.

Aside from the potential biting things, I’m feeling pretty much ready –

  • the rucksack is packed and not too heavy (although I might have one more re-pack to see if I can get it a bit lighter)
  • the horrendous moorland fires above Crowden are hopefully going to stay contained so that I can use the diversion which has been in place for a few weeks now (& if not I will arrange a taxi to get me around the area involved – hopefully not necessary on the day)
  • food boxes/care packages are already sent and dotted along the route for me to pick up as I reach certain points in my walk – looking forward to jelly snakes in Malham and clean underwear & socks in Byrness (to be saved for the trip home!)
  • I have screenshots of every page in the guide book saved to my phone so that the actual book doesn’t need to come with me
  • & I had a trip to the beach this morning, just to ground myself before leaving home (which is actually one of the hardest things for me to do)

So, I think I’m all set!

I’m truly grateful for all the support and donations already made to my JustGiving page for Cancer Research UK but if you haven’t already done so, and would like to add to the total, please click on the link above to do that. I know that life is expensive right now so any amount is greatly appreciated.

Guided walks

Joining a group walk is ideal if you are not sure where to go or want someone else taking care of the logistics. A good walk leader (ie. me!!) will also help you to manage your exertion levels and cope with the heat on very warm days, as well as sharing local facts and folklore for the areas you visit.

I am leading two walks at the end of August:

  • Cowden, Markbeech & Hever – Saturday 29th August – details here – a scenic circular hike through the beautiful High Weald countryside, exploring rolling farmland, ancient woodland, quiet country lanes and picturesque Kent villages
  • Balcombe, Ardingly Reservoir & Ouse Valley Viaduct – Bank Holiday Monday 31st August – details here – hike through the Sussex countryside, combining peaceful woodland, rolling hills, shimmering reservoir views and one of Britain’s finest Victorian railway landmarks, the Ouse Valley viaduct!

Here’s to all the adventures that August brings!
