weekly update 22nd October

Welcome to my weekly update.

Mats!

Many thanks to all my bootcampers for getting back to me about mats and skipping ropes over the past week – this is your last chance to let me know if you want a folding mat instead of a standard one, and if you would like a skipping rope, as I will be placing the order tomorrow. If you’ve opted for a folding mat and/or a skipping rope I’ll email you to confirm once I have placed the order – please could you let me have either cash or cheque when you collect your items from me.

Christmas meal:

There was a positive response to the suggestion of having a tmf Christmas meal and after weighing up the options I have decided to go with an evening meal so that as many of you as possible can attend if you wish. It will be open to all tmf clients, whether you attend a bootcamp or super-circuits or have personal training with me.

The plan is to hold it at The Bull in Benenden – the date, costs & further details will be confirmed shortly. Nita Degenaar has kindly volunteered to organise it so I will pass you her email contact once we have finalised the plans so that you get in touch with her if you want to attend.

Winter training gear:

I have been asked by several clients about suitable clothing for bootcamp once the weather is colder.

I find it best to wear several light layers as you will still get warm, even on a very cold day. I would recommend technical fibres for your base layer (closest to your skin) as they wick sweat away from your body, whereas cotton keeps moisture close to your skin which will feel cold & potentially chafe after time after a short time.

I wear running tights as a base layer with an extra pair of track pants/lightweight ski pants over the top – but bear in mind I’m not moving as much as you! You might prefer to wear the sort of base layer you would wear under ski pants with lightweight track pants on top.

For me gloves are a must – even though I haven’t yet found a pair that actually keep my hands warm! You might also like a hat or a head band to keep your ears warm.

If you are coming to the sessions at Benenden, or training with me elsewhere on grass, you ideally need a pair of trail shoes, rather than standard trainers, as they have far better grip on wet grass and mud. I realise it’s another thing to buy, but trail shoes are relatively inexpensive and will make a huge difference to your workout. Walking shoes with a fixed sole are not suitable as they do not provide the right level of support to absorb impact and do not allow your foot to flex for exercises such as lunges.

Whatever you decide to go for, you don’t have to spend a lot of money – check out outdoor clothing shops (I grit my teeth & go to the Outlet Centre in Ashford a couple of times a year and stock up on layers while I’m there as there are lots of sports and outdoor clothing shops to choose from).

If you prefer to use a sports shop you can get a 10% discount off non-sale goods in Sweatshop, Maidstone when you print off this page and show them my ambassador number at the till (0910001).

Or shop online at www.nowrun.co.uk and save 15% when you quote TMF2011 at the checkout.

Happy shopping!!

The year ahead:

Please click here to see the remaining bootcamp dates for 2011 along with the proposed dates for 2012.

You will see there’s a slight change for week commencing 5th December. I have booked onto a training day on Friday 9th December and will not therefore be able to offer any bootcamps on this date. I need to confirm it with DCPS but plan to run the early sessions on Mon, Weds & Thurs for that week only, and unfortunately will only be able to offer four 9am sessions Mon-Thurs. I wouldn’t normally disrupt the bootcamp schedule but the opportunity arose to attend a training day with someone who is not usually based in the UK so I hope you will forgive me?!

You will also notice that I have allocated myself a few weeks off during 2012 so that you know in advance when there will be no bootcamps…the result of which will be a 1-week rebate in December 2012 as I will only offer 3 weeks in that month.

The 9am bootcamps move across to a four-weekly schedule from January 2012 and I will advise you nearer the time if your payments will be affected by this change.

Please let me know if you have any queries about the dates for the year ahead – and let me know if you spot any continuity errors on my part as I put this together very early last Sunday morning!!

The week ahead:

There are no 9am bootcamps this week as we have a week off. However, for anyone who wants to keep busy you can either join the 6.15am sessions instead and/or join me in Benenden on Tuesday or Thursday when I will be there for my own workout…

  • on Tuesday I’ll be repeating the bleep test at 9am and then running around the pitch trying to improve my current time for 12 laps. You don’t need to keep up (or run as slowly as me!!) but come and join in if you fancy a spot of running at your own pace
  • on Thursday I’ll be trying out a new interval workout that is currently running around my head – it will be called’The Detonator’ and if I like it I’ll be unleashing it on you soon…you’re very welcome to come and have a sneak preview…

6.15am @ DCPS:

Week 4! Lots of energy required…but remember you will still be able to work at your own pace so don’t be put off – just come along and give it your best shot. I’ve indicated below whether dumbbells (DB) are required for each session.

  • Monday – High intensity accumulator 4 (no DB)
  • Wednesday – ME 20 (DB)
  • Friday – 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 (DB)

I think that’s everything I meant to tell you so I’ll leave you with my fave fb pic from this week…

… & with that in mind I’m going to log-off now and do the rest of my work tomorrow!

Have a great weekend
